Racha Noi (small “Racha”) usually enjoys good visibility like its bigger neighbor to the north, but offers more rugged and dramatic underwater scenery as well as a better chance for big animal encounters. It is worth keeping an eye trained while diving at this site, as jacks and barracuda are frequently cruising by just beyond the reef, and mantas are always a possibility. White tip reef sharks and marbled stingrays are sometimes seen in deeper areas.
Racha Yai (sometimes spelled Raya Yai) is known for it clears water, healthy marine life and generally easy, year-round diving. Because of these typically gentle condition, this island is prime choice for diving training and snorkeling and offers a suitable environment for divers of all experience levels. Most of the better sites are along the east coast, which is protected from the southwest monsoon. Dive sites primarily consist of sloping hard-coral reefs surrounded by white-sand bottoms. Marine life included a variety of reef fish and invertebrates. It is also quite scenic above water, with several superb white-sand beaches bordered by groves of coconut trees. |

- Boat Trip: 2 Hour / Speedboat 50 mins
- Depth: 10-40 Meters (32-130 ft)
- Visibility: good to very good

Ideal for Nitrox, Multi Level, UW Photography, Naturalist, Deep Diver Details: Racha Noi is a popular dive-site for more experienced divers, as the depths are generally greater and the currents frequently stronger than at its sister island to the North. You will encounter huge underwater boulders that offer a good chance to see manta rays and whale sharks. The northern tip of the island offers an opportunity for a good multilevel dive along a large pinnacle where spotting larger marine life like Reef Sharks and Stingrays is common. Off the southern point is a nice drift dive along some spectacular scenery as you find yourself on top of a large rock formation surrounded by deep water. On the southwest side there is a wooden ship-wreck that draws a lot of interesting reef fish. Racha Noi offers many opportunities for an enjoyable and rewarding deep-dive but due to the potential for strong currents here many of the dive shops will only bring divers here who have an advanced certification. |

Ideal for UW Photography, Naturalist, Navigation, PPB, Drift. OK for Beginner Details: Racha Yai offers some of the best local year around dive-sites but the visibility varies as to the season. On the north side of the island are two beautiful little bays famous for their deep clear water and colorful coral formations. Both of them have almost swimming pool features as they gradually drop to a depth of 40 feet onto a sandy seabed, providing ample opportunities for both snorkeling and scuba diving. The best diving is off the east coast where the current allows a gentle drift dive along a sloping rocky face that is covered with an amazing array of hard corals and the nutrient rich water draws large schools of tropical fish. Here the Island provides several Beaches and gentle sloops with ample playground for Beginners and experienced divers alike. Big groupers, snapper, tuna and octopus are common dive buddies here as well as a small, perfectly safe wreck, the Andaman Explorer. These sites offer easy and pleasant diving in shallow water (mostly 5-8 meters) and are easily reached from shore making them popular for both snorkeling and as training areas for scuba diving classes. |
